It's Here!

After years of dreaming and months of waiting, I'm finally thrilled to announce that one of the most beautiful books ever written is finally available.  Everyone who comes into my library very soon hears about this treasure.  The Chestry Oak by Kate Seredy is the story of Prince Michael of Hungary whose country is being taken over by the Nazis during World War II.

The beauty of this book cannot be adequately expressed.  Many years ago I was searching for a copy of this exquisite gem but prices were high.  I was in need of a new winter coat.  I bought the book instead.  When I finally sat down to read it, I cried so hard because of its beauty I had to lay the book aside for a time.  Finally I mustered up the determination to pick it back up.  I cried again as I experienced the courageous heroism in the great and the small.

If you want to experience a living book as it was meant to be, buy this book.  If you want to share with your children this historical time period played out in poignant beauty, buy this book.  I'm thrilled beyond measure this captivating story is in print again for another generation to experience.

  1. My copy arrived yesterday, and I am tempted to just read it myself, and then do it as a read aloud in a few weeks. :) A book over a coat??? You must really love this book!

    1. I'm so glad I read it first! It's a beautiful book to share but I was not prepared for how it affected me. My boys would have thought me off my rocker if I had been sobbing like that in front of them. They each have their own gorgeous hard-bound copies set aside for them. This book over a coat? No comparison. Enjoy!

    1. It is exciting...and yes, tragic...but so beautiful! Kate Seredy (pronounced Sharedy) was Hungarian so she was writing for her people. I hope you enjoy it.

  3. I've been looking for this book for years and was thrilled to find out it was being reprinted. My copy arrived this week & I'll be reading it aloud. Maybe I should read it to myself first so I can have a good blubber beforehand! Came via Booknificent also.

    1. I'm so glad you'll be reading it, Carol! I won't promise you'll have the tears I did, but I do promise you will be touched deeply. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Thank you for sharing this book. I usually read several books each year on the Jews who survived or those who did not, the ones who tried to keep the Jews from the camps, or those who resisted the Nazis in their countries. This part of history is horrible yet so important not to forget. Learning about the courageous people is truly a blessing no matter how many tears it takes to get through a book.

    1. You're right, Linda. It is so important that we don't forget the lessons (or the people) of the past so that we don't make the same mistakes. Books like this bring us face to face with those who have gone before and what they endured.
